I’m Dr. Richard Hemmings, founder of Leicester Drum School in Oadby, and I’m here to share my passion for drumming with anyone ready to begin their journey of rhythmical discovery! I’ve been teaching drums since 2006 and there’s little I love more than seeing students of all ages and abilities develop their skills (or ‘chops’ as us drummers like to call them). With a first-class degree in Contemporary Musics from Leeds University and a Ph.D. in music from De Montfort University in Leicester, I’m confident I can offer a musical insight you won’t get anywhere else.
Taster Lessons
Whether you’re just starting out or looking to improve your skills, I make sure every lesson is fun and tailored to you. If you’re curious about drumming and want to give it a go, you can book a taster session with me for just £20.00. My teaching studio is fully equipped with everything you need to get the most out of your lessons, including a high-quality sound system for playing backing track.
Drum Exams or Just for Fun
For those looking to take it to the next level, I offer preparation for Trinity drum kit grades, but if you’re looking for a new hobby and just want to learn for fun, that’s great too! Every lesson introduces something new, and I make sure the learning experience is relaxed, friendly, and most importantly, enjoyable.
I work with students of all levels – from kids aged 8 and up to adults – and I cover a wide range of drumming techniques, styles, and theory. We’ll focus on things like stick control, timing, and reading music, all while keeping it engaging and motivating.
