20 Min HIIT Drumming Workout: Day 2

20 Min HIIT Drumming Workout: Day 2. For this second day of HIIT workouts I decided to do 2 x 10 minute sessions. My initial idea was to use the first 10 minutes to warm up on the snare drum so that I could use the second 10 minutes to incorporate more of the kit. What I discovered was that I am very out of shape! Join me as I regain my chops!

If you don’t know some of the rudiments I’m playing I suggest you play something else. This isn’t so much about learning new patterns as it is about forcing oneself to sit at the kit and play for 20 minutes. Sitting down at the kit is often half the battle. All that said, what am I playing?

20 Min HIIT Drumming Workout

Part 1 – 10 minutes, 8 x 1 min separated by 20 secs rest

  1. Singles (RH leading)
  2. Singles (LH leading)
  3. Paradiddle (RH leading)
  4. Paradiddle (LH leading)
  5. Flams
  6. Single hand roll (RH / groups of 4)
  7. Single hand roll (LH / groups of 4)
  8. 4 stroke roll
  9. Double stroke roll (I played an extra rudiment!)
Part 2 – 10 minutes, 8 x 1 min separated by 20 secs rest

  1. Interpolation (Both hands + Bass drum)
  2. Interpolation (RH + bass drum)
  3. Triplet (RLBLRB)

  6. Flam Accent
  7. Inward Paradiddle
  8. 5-stroke roll (Triplets)

I know a lot of what I’m playing is ropy but I also know that it will improve over the weeks. When you begin practising something it’s going to be messy and full of mistakes – that’s the nature of it!
