24 Minute Drum Rudiment Workout: Day 8 – Another day, another warts and all workout on the drums. This practise session is in two parts. After I’d recorded the video I went back and played through the first part again, so it ended up being three parts long. It’s quite similar to yesterdays, but with more focus on the single stroke roll which I still feel needs to be a lot stronger. I’ve made the ‘work’ sections 10 secs longer (now they last 70 secs), so it’s a little harder going.
The second part brings in the bass drum more. I’ve got a lot of work to do on this and I proudly display its inadequacies. Things will get better! Unfortunately, the bass drum mesh head doesn’t record well. It’s too much to go into here, but to get it to sound good is going to cost money.

Part 2 was definitely the more challenging in terms of skill required to execute. And I did find the sound of my bass drum mesh head off-putting. It’s probably time to focus a lot more on my feet which have lost a lot of control since I’ve not playing a band for ages.
